Police were called to Station Street in Wollongong at 7.20am today, where they found the man, believed to be a 68-year-old local.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to formally identify the man and determine the cause of death.
A 37-year-old man was arrested this morning and taken to Wollongong Police Station.
