Manchester United are interested in signing a Chelsea first-team player in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It’s now the final week of the Premier League season, so the rumour mill is only going to ramp up as the window draws ever closer.

Chelsea and Man United were at the centre of a big story last summer, with Mason Mount completing a switch from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford. So, could another Blues player be about to follow in his footsteps?

Manchester United want Chelsea defender

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips has reported via his Substack on Tuesday that Man United has reignited interest in signing Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella this summer after previous links last year.

Phillips wrote: “I’m hearing that United have reignited that interest in the Spanish left back (Cucurella) ahead of a potential move this summer.”

Phillips explains that Erik ten Hag’s side admire the 25-year-old Blues left-back, who’s attracting interest from other interested buyers as well.

Also, Man United are keen on Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell, but his injury problems means he’s less desirable than Cucurella.

In addition, Chelsea are expected to sell a left-back this summer, with Cucurella always seen as more likely than Chilwell.

Should Chelsea keep Marc Cucurella after U-turn?

It’s quite obvious that Cucurella’s going through his best spell as a Chelsea player right now, finally showing a glimpse as to why the club splashed £60m (Sky Sports) to sign him from Brighton in 2022.

Cucurella is thriving as the starting left-back, especially since his role has adapted to invert when his side have possession.

Based on current form, the Spaniard has a great case to keep his starting position even when Chilwell is back fit again.

Jason Cundy described Cucurella as “excellent” after a recent performance via Chelsea’s official app.

The Chelsea Chronicle is struggling to see any reason of why Cucurella should be sold at this moment unless a sizeable offer comes in for him.
