Wrexham have released a statement on shirt reselling after their 2023/24 home kit was seen on eBay for a price of £180.

The Welsh club’s popularity has skyrocketed following their takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, whose investment helped the team to a National League title win.

With that, they will be playing in League Two next season, having spent 15 years out of the English Football League.

The promotion has brought increased benefits to the side, including a lucrative US pre-season tour with fixtures against Manchester United and Chelsea.

An unfortunate downside to their popularity is that sizes of their new home shirt have already sold out upon release, leaving supporters frustrated as they appear to have been targeted by resellers.

The RobRyanRed podcast tweeted grabs of the shirts for sale on eBay for £179.99 and showed their displeasure.

“Well, that didn’t take long,” they wrote. “Real fans missing out while scalpers make a quick profit.

“Until the club can meet the demand and have a shopping experience that actually works this will only continue to happen.

“How is it still this bad?”

Following the news, Wrexham released an official statement telling supporters not to buy shirts from resellers, while promising that stock will be replenished.

The statement read: “We have once again been blown away by the demand for replica home shirts this morning, which continues to exceed all reasonable expectations.

“As previously communicated, we have significantly upped our kit orders this season – for context, this is now to levels comparable with clubs in the EFL Championship, and so to see them flying off the virtual shelves again is incredible.

“We understand the frustrations of supporters who have been trying to buy shirts this morning. The shop website’s servers were set to cope with an increased capacity of orders compared to last season, but demand outstripped this further and we have been working with our web providers this morning to remedy this as much as possible.

“Any supporters who have placed additional orders by mistake can get in touch with us via email on [email protected]. Refunds for orders placed in error will be processed within 24 hours.

“As we continue to grow, and in order to meet this demand, we will continue to learn and improve our systems. Further stock will be ordered where shirts are selling out, and we urge all supporters to buy through official channels.

“We have put restrictions in place to limit the opportunity for re-sale and will be monitoring all multiple purchases to reduce this further. Individuals trying to re-sell shirts for a vastly inflated price on other sites are an unwelcome by-product of our growth in popularity, but will not succeed if supporters stick to official channels only.

“Thank you once again to all supporters who have bought shirts this morning – we can’t wait to see you in our new United Airlines-sponsored kits throughout the next season.”
