Jason Cundy had a warning for one Chelsea player after the Blues’ match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea took on Brighton in their penultimate game of the season, coming into it on a good run of form.

Prior to their trip to the Amex Stadium, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men had beaten Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur to put themselves in contention for European football.

Champions League qualification was obviously the aim heading into the campaign, but given where Chelsea have been for most of the season, they would probably take a Europa Conference League or Europa League spot.

Their final game is against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Jason Cundy’s warning for Chelsea star

Cundy was commentating on Chelsea’s clash versus Brighton for the club’s official website (15/05/2024 at 19:50).

During it, he praised Marc Cucurella for the energy that he brings to the pitch.

At the same time, though, the former Chelsea defender shared his concerns over the left-back’s emotional side after a couple of bad tackles.

“He’s a very emotional player, Cucurella,” Cundy said. “When the emotion is going in his favour, you feel there is an energy and a real zest about his game. When it doesn’t, he can go the other way.

“He needs to be careful. That’s the point I’m trying to make here.”

Will Marc Cucurella be Chelsea’s first-choice left-back next season?

Since Pochettino started using Cucurella as an inverted full-back, the 25-year-old has really thrived in a blue shirt.

It was actually Cucurella who set up Cole Palmer’s opener at the Amex, though his cross for the goal came from a wide position.

Whatever the case, given his form right now and the fact that Ben Chilwell struggles to stay fit, Cucurella could easily start the 2024/25 campaign as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back.

If not, then Pochettino can always play Chilwell or Levi Colwill over the Spaniard, who earns £175,000 a week (Spotrac) at Stamford Bridge.

Cucurella is one of Chelsea’s most expensive signings of all time after his move from Brighton a couple of years ago.
