Two teenagers are killed in a horror crash after the car they were travelling in smashed into a tree

  • The male driver, 19, and female rear passenger, 17, tragically died at the scene
  • The car’s male front passenger, 46, was flown to Adelaide in a serious condition

Two South Australian teenagers have died after their car crashed into a tree almost 100km from their home.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports a car travelling north had veered off the Augusta Highway near Lochiel, about 130km north of Adelaide, at about 7.30pm on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old male driver and 17-year-old female rear passenger, both from Port Pirie, tragically died at the scene.

The front passenger, a 46-year-old Port Pirie man, was flown from the crash to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.

Major Crash investigators closed the Augusta Highway, from Kangaroo Hill Rd to Port Wakefield, while examining the scene for several hours overnight.

The teens are the 68th and 69th lives lost on South Australian roads this year, compared to 99 lives lost this time last year.
