A 52-year-old man has been charged following the death of a Toowoomba father who was allegedly attacked inside his home on Anzac Day.

Jim Hill, 76, suffered significant head injuries after the man allegedly entered his Hood Street home in Gatton between 4pm and 7pm on April 25.

Police believe the two men were known to each other as "acquaintances".

Hill was rushed to Toowoomba Hospital in a serious condition, but he later died on May 5.

Police have charged the 52-year-old Gatton man with one count each of entering a dwelling with intent by break at night, deprivation of liberty, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

He was refused bail and will appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
