Enzo Maresca has drawn up an individual plan for Enzo Fernandez that he’s explained during talks with Chelsea about becoming their next manager.

Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca, 44, is now expected across the media to become Chelsea’s new head coach.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported via X on Tuesday morning that Maresca to Chelsea is “almost done” and the contract is nearly agreed.

The Italian coach guided Leicester to promotion as Championship title winners during his first year at the club, but he’s already heading for the exit doors and taking a bigger step into a high-pressured position at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca maps out plan for Chelsea star

The Evening Standard claims that Chelsea’s board love the fact that Maresca has explained to them a detailed plan for Enzo Fernandez.

It is understood that the incoming manager outlined numerous set-ups for how he could get the best out of Blues midfielder Fernandez.

Chelsea’s hierarchy appreciated the detail from Maresca into the 23-year-old and the focus on helping him flourish.

Enzo Fernandez needs to be central figure for Blues

When you consider Chelsea splashed out £106.8m (Sky Sports) on Fernandez from Benfica in 2023, he’s yet to really deliver a fair return on that investment from the club.

Harry Winks was the heartbeat of Maresca’s Leicester team this season, playing as a deep-lying midfield playmaker that dominated the ball and started attacks. FBREF data recorded that Winks completed the third most passes of any player in the Championship division this season (3725).

The Chelsea Chronicle is confident that Fernandez could replicate that to an even higher standard with his level of passing range and football IQ.

There’s no mention in the report above about Maresca’s plans for Fernandez next season, but it’s very encouraging to hear he’s firmly in his thoughts. Surely, the Argentine star can thrive in a possession-based side.
