Out of Thiago Silva’s four seasons at Chelsea so far, this has probably been his worst.

Thiago Silva was recently dropped from the Chelsea team by manager Mauricio Pochettino, though he was brought back into it for the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United.

The central defender actually scored in the game at Bramall Lane, his fourth of the season.

It was the neatest of finishes, with Silva guiding the ball into the back of the net from a corner.

In general, the way Silva attacks the ball in the box from a corner, you cannot question it. His defending this term, however, has not always been convincing. The club are yet to discuss the Brazilian’s future despite his contract expiring this summer.

Worrying Thiago Silva stat

Silva is not normally a player who you would associate with making mistakes.

He is a world-class defender who has so much experience at the elite level after playing for Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

However, the centre-back has made quite a few of them this season.

In fact, according to WhoScored, no player in the Premier League has made more errors leading directly to an opposition shot than Silva, who has recorded four.

Again, the former PSG captain is clearly not having his best campaign in west London.

Chelsea should still keep Thiago Silva despite mistakes

Considering his form and contract situation, it looks like Chelsea are going to let Silva go at the end of the season.

However, his experience and overall ability make him worth keeping around.

At this stage of his career, some will argue that Silva should not be starting week in, week out at an elite club.

But right now, Chelsea are far from being that, while there is also no reason why he cannot stay and be a squad option.
