Under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, Chelsea have signed a lot of players.

For example, last summer, the likes of Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi were all brought to the club.

A lot of these players were not cheap either, with Caicedo now being the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

At the same time, though, which is not always mentioned, the Blues have also lost many members of their squad.

Who has departed Chelsea since their takeover?

Key players, several of them. Former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Jorginho and Kai Havertz are just some names.

In Boehly and Clearlake‘s first summer at the club, the Blues also had to wave goodbye to Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Both players refused to sign new contracts before going on to sign for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively on free transfers.

With Chelsea recovering from being sanctioned, departing Stamford Bridge did not look like a bad idea. For Rudiger, it has proven to be a brilliant one.

Antonio Rudiger’s decision to leave Chelsea justified

With Chelsea finishing 12th last season and Rudiger joining arguably the biggest club in the world in Real Madrid, his decision to swap teams looked the correct one. Fast forward to now, and you can easily say that it was more than correct.

The central defender, of course, helped Real Madrid to win the Champions League on Saturday, the second one he has now won after Chelsea’s triumph in 2021.

The Blues have come nowhere close to claiming that trophy again, not even qualifying for the competition last term or in the current campaign.

Rudiger has now got his hands on it again, as well as the La Liga title. As far as career moves go, this was a very good one for the Germany international, who was “phenomenal” in this season’s Champions League, according to Manchester United legend Ferdinand.
