Chelsea and the rest of the Premier League had a vote on whether VAR should be kept in the English top flight at their latest AGM.

Wolverhampton Wanderers voted in favour of VAR being scrapped after bringing the matter to the table.

In the end, though, it was decided that it would be retained next season.

It did Chelsea no favours in one of their games towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Blues thought they had beaten Aston Villa 3-2 in stoppage time after Axel Disasi found the back of the net, but the VAR recommended that the goal be disallowed after spotting a foul in the build-up.

How did Chelsea vote at the Premier League AGM?

Chelsea and a lot of other clubs will have their complaints about VAR.

However, it does not look like they had enough to vote for it to be scrapped.

The Telegraph’s John Percy was one journalist to share that Wolves were actually the only team at the Premier League AGM who voted for VAR to be removed.

Chelsea and the other 18 top-flight clubs voted for it to stay. After so much controversy surrounding it this season, though, all 20 members of the Premier League are going to want to see some changes.

VAR not to blame for Chelsea’s failures this season

Chelsea’s aim was to qualify for the Champions League but could they could not accomplish it.

It would be easy to blame some of the officiating and injuries, with the latter certainly playing a part, but in the end they probably just conceded too many goals.

In total, Chelsea’s defence was breached on 63 occasions. That is what really let them down.

Improving the team in that area will be one of Enzo Maresca‘s many tasks. The Italian was confirmed as the new Chelsea manager on Monday.

Do that, and the Blues should have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
