Scheana Shay, a star of the reality TV show “Vanderpump Rules,” recently criticized her former co-star Kristen Doute for promoting merchandise with a caption inspired by R. Kelly’s song “Bump n’ Grind.” The controversy arose when Doute posted a video of herself and Zack Wickham wearing

“Petty with a Purpose” T-shirts with the caption, “Our mind is telling us no, but our petty is telling us yes… .”

Shay commented on the post, “Not the R Kelly reference….,” indicating her disapproval of the reference to the disgraced singer.

Doute responded with a puzzled “huh?”, suggesting she was unaware of the connection. Wickham later clarified that the caption was taken from an e-card and that they had no idea it was a lyric from R. Kelly.

The controversy stems from R. Kelly’s controversial past, including his conviction of eight counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering in New York in 2022, resulting in a 30-year prison sentence.

Despite Shay’s criticism, there appears to be no animosity between her and Doute. Shay previously defended Doute on “The Valley” when Jax Taylor questioned her readiness to become a mother. Shay is married to Brock Davies and has a daughter named Summer.
