The incident unfolded on North Way in Elizabeth Park about 2am yesterday after police received reports of a break-in at a nearby service station on Elizabeth Way.
CCTV vision captured the man allegedly breaking into the service station.
Its managers alerted police after seeing the vision on their phones, but the man managed to flee before officers arrived.
A police dog led officers to where the man had sought refuge on the roof of Kylie Laverty’s home.
Kylie, her husband and five-year-old daughter had been asleep when police surrounded their home.
“First we kind of heard the bins moving, which was really weird for sort of two o’clock in the morning. Then there was a really loud bang on the side fence and banging on the roof,” Kylie said.
“They were just shouting at him to get down off the roof and come down.”
After a tense standoff, the man was eventually taken into custody.Â
The Lavertys said they were relieved their five-year-old daughter remained asleep throughout the ordeal.
“People just need to get a job and just grow up and stop it. This is people’s lives that you are messing with,” Kylie said.
The 22-year-old man from Adelaide is expected to face multiple charges.
Police allege that he had also climbed a roof to break into the service station.
