Danny Murphy thinks one Chelsea player is a different animal when he puts on his country’s shirt.

Chelsea have several stars representing their nations at this year’s European Championship.

The likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja have all been called up for Euro 2024.

Mudryk and Lukaku both tasted defeat on Monday after losing to Romania and Slovakia respectively.

Broja also lost his first game with Albania after falling to a 2-1 defeat against Italy.

Danny Murphy thinks Chelsea man plays with fear at Stamford Bridge

Last season was a difficult one for Chelsea, who finished sixth and missed out on Champions League qualification once again.

Mudryk was often in and out of the side, and Murphy has been speaking about how different things are for him when he is playing for Ukraine.

Speaking on BBC One (17/06/2024 at 13:55) before Ukraine’s 3-0 defeat against Romania, the former midfielder said: “He has looked a bit in Chelsea, a little bit in awe. He needs a run in games and a manager who can have some belief in him.

“He needs a manager to give him six or eight games, where he doesn’t feel like every time he gives the ball away or makes a mistake he will be off, or [Raheem] Sterling is going to come in.

“I think with Chelsea he plays with that fear, when he plays with Ukraine he plays with responsibility and he thrives off it, he looks a different player.”

Mykhailo Mudryk under pressure at Chelsea

Mudryk is obviously under a lot more pressure at Chelsea compared to when he is playing for Ukraine.

The Blues are expected to win every week, while Mudryk, who earns £100,000 a week (Spotrac) in west London, is one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

It is not easy for him at Stamford Bridge, but with a new manager in Enzo Maresca now at the helm, it is a fresh start for the winger.

Mudryk has now had one whole season plus half a campaign at Chelsea. He really needs to start delivering for the club, and maybe the Euros can help give him some confidence going into the new season if he can hit top form during the tournament.
