Chelsea have signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, but it has been a quiet transfer window for them and most other clubs so far.

Of course, the transfer window in England only opened last week, so there is still plenty of time for teams to do their business.

One senior figure at a Premier League club thinks Chelsea actually have the potential to kick-start things.

There could be quite a few exits at Stamford Bridge this summer, which includes a possible Conor Gallagher departure.

The midfielder is into the final year of his contract and is reportedly attracting interest from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea could be protagonist in transfer window

Chelsea have done some early business by bringing in Adarabioyo from their west London neighbours.

A senior figure at one of their rivals thinks they could make more moves soon if they sell Gallagher, which he believes could cause a chain reaction in the Premier League.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “I still think there are plenty of Premier League clubs with the ability to spend. The market just needs that first big Premier League player to move.

“If Conor Gallagher was to move away from Chelsea, as an example, then Chelsea [will] spend and there’ll be a shift elsewhere. Then things start moving.”

Chelsea could still make signings before Conor Gallagher exit

Gallagher is currently at Euro 2024, meaning it may be a while before Chelsea can sort out his future.

It is quite unlikely that they are going to wait until he is potentially sold to make further signings, especially with one of their targets in high demand right now.

Chelsea are reportedly ready to trigger Michael Olise’s release clause. However, Manchester United are also said to be interested in the winger, which is why the Blues cannot wait around forever.

There is not even a guarantee that Gallagher, whom Gareth Southgate has praised for having “tremendous drive”, is going to leave Chelsea anyway. He could always sign a new contract or see out his current one, which expires in 2025.
