Cole then allegedly shot 66-year-old James McGill, who police said was coming to Frahm’s aid after the two children ran for help.
The .22-calibre pistol allegedly used in the shooting was found during a search of a Robb Place home, along with an air rifle and a homemade inoperable long-arm rifle, Detective Acting Superintendent Emma Novosel said today.
“Examination of the pistol located indicates that it matches the description given to us by Mr McGill and also the witnesses to this event,” Novosel said.
“Preliminary advice from forensic examinations and ballistic experts lead police to believe that this is the weapon used to fatally wound Natalie Frahm and to injure James McGill.”
None of the weapons found were registered, she said.
“Investigations are ongoing into the origin of the pistol and how it came to be in the possession of the defendant,” Novosel said.
Cole appeared in court via videolink on Friday, charged with murder and attempted murder.
He is alleged to have fled the scene in a silver Mitsubishi Triton after the shooting and was tracked to a service station on the Bruce Highway near Hilton Street, where he was arrested.
A motive for the alleged attack is not yet known.
The investigation is ongoing and police are looking to speak to anyone who has information or dashcam footage.
