Chelsea have looked to get creative on a number of occasions in the last few years in order to get some signings over the line.

They have frequently offered long-term contracts to players in order to get some deals over the line, with the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk committing their future to the club until the 2030s.

The Blues have on occasion looked to evade release clauses too due to the need to pay the whole fee up front. They would rather pay a small amount more in order to break it down over a number of years.

Now, a player with a reported £50m release clause has emerged as one of the top performers at Euro 2024, and subsequently a target for Chelsea in the process.

It has been reported that they have an interest in signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, with him being one of the top performers alongside Marc Cucurella for Spain this summer.

Chelsea won’t pay Dani Olmo release clause

According to The Athletic though, the Blues will not be able to trigger his release clause, and instead if they make a move for him will actually pay more than the fee required.

The Blues seem well stocked in the midfield positions where he has played the large amount of his minutes at the Euros so far.

They also already added in a similar role with the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with him seeming to be brought in with manager Enzo Maresca in mind.

The former Leicester City man didn’t emerge on their list of targets until they hired the Italian, after he got the best out of him at their former club last season.

Fellow midfield positions are likely to be competed for by the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, with Romeo Lavia another who will be hoping to kick off his Chelsea career.
