Renato Veiga has shared during his first interview as a Chelsea player that he’s a huge fan of a former Blues star.

Renato Veiga, 20, will be hoping to write his name into Chelsea’s history after officially moving to Stamford Bridge.

He’s joined the Blues from FC Basel in a £12m deal (Daily Mail) on Friday.

There’s a lot of intrigue about where Veiga could be used because he’s an extremely versatile player.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website, Veiga admitted they doesn’t really have a preferred position. The Portuguese youngster can play as either a left-back, centre-back or a defensive midfielder.

Renato Veiga grew up watching N’Golo Kante

Many Blues supporters are going to feel old when they hear that their newest signing was a child when he used to watch N’Golo Kante.

Now 33, Kante spent seven seasons dominating the midfield at Stamford Bridge before leaving to join Al Ittihad last year in the summer of 2023.

When asked if he watched any Chelsea stars growing up, Veiga told the club’s YouTube channel: “Kante.

“70% of the world is covered by water and the rest is by Kante.

“So yeah, amazing player.

“Because I play in his position as well a lot of times, I love watching him.”

Chelsea midfield still misses magical Frenchman

There’s no doubt that Chelsea still miss the brilliance of France international Kante in their side.

He just proved during this summer’s international tournament that he’s still full of quality on the biggest stage, too.

There’s not many central midfielders in history that are as industrious on and off the ball as Kante, so it was always going to be very challenging to replace him.

In fairness, Chelsea are stacked with a lot of quality young midfielders in their current ranks. Let’s see if any can emerge as world-class operators.

The Blues do have talents such as Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the centre of the park.
