There’s definitely an element of the unknown at Chelsea going into the new season because of yet another managerial change.

It’s been hard to keep track in recent years of the chaos at Stamford Bridge.

Next to sit in the manager’s dugout and try to settle things, Enzo Maresca.

The Italian head coach has just had his first week of training the Blues squad during this summer’s pre-season.

Ben Chilwell was one of three Chelsea players singled out for praise by Maresca during a training video on the club’s X account.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the final squad shapes up by the time the summer transfer window shuts.

Juan Mata makes claim about Chelsea squad

Juan Mata, who spent three superb years as a Chelsea star between 2011-14, has delivered his verdict on his former club.

He’s claimed that the young Blues squad is one with real potential moving forward.

Mata told talkSPORT: “I am so grateful to Chelsea. I mean, the two and a half years that I spent there was incredible.

“Of course, it was combined with trophies, with the Champions League, with the Europa League, with the FA Cup, with the love that I got from all the fans. I was enjoying so much on the pitch.

“Of course, I also want Chelsea to do well. There have been some challenging times, but it looks like with the young squad that they have, they can really build on that.”

Momentum from last season

There’s no doubt that Chelsea picked up some real momentum towards the back of the 2023/24 season, which ultimately secured sixth spot in the Premier League.

Let’s hope that this group of players can continue the form and pick up where they left off.

It certainly took some time for Mauricio Pochettino to get any kind of consistency from his squad. Some may argue that’s down to the inexperience and youthfulness, though.

There was obviously a big reliance on Cole Palmer last year, but this young group has so much potential.
