A manhunt is under way for a prisoner who has escaped from a north Queensland correctional centre.

Tyrone Emanual Massey, 24, who is serving five years for armed robbery, absconded from Townsville Correctional Centre on Saturday. 

Police are warning the public not to approach Massey who is described as Aboriginal, approximately 165cm tall, with a slim build, short brown hair and brown eyes.

Massey has several distinctive facial tattoos, including ‘Menace’ below his right eye and ‘Loyalty’ above his left eye.

He also has tattoos on his left leg and both arms. 

Police believe Massey may be in the Townsville area and should not be approached.

‘If you see this man or know his whereabouts, contact triple zero (000) immediately,’ Queensland Police said in a statement.
