Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has reacted to the big news in English football this week, which is that Gareth Southgate has left his role as England manager.

Following eight years as the Three Lions boss, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Gareth Southgate has left his position. This came less than 48 hours after England were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Southgate reached a final in two of his four major tournaments as England manager, but the side came up short in both. They reached a semi-final and a quarter-final on the other two occasions.

Southgate has received widespread messages of support for everything he’s done as an international manager, rightly so. Conor Gallagher is among those to post a message about him on social media.

Conor Gallagher sends message to Gareth Southgate

Chelsea midfielder Gallagher has earned 18 senior international caps so far with England. Of course, they’ve all come during Southgate’s reign.

The Blues star featured five times this summer at Euro 2024, which has turned out to be the final tournament for Southgate.

Gallagher has uploaded a post on Instagram reflecting on the last few weeks in Germany. This included a special thank you message to the departing Southgate.

Conor Gallagher needs to sort club future before trying to impress next England manager

Gallagher will certainly hope to be kept in and around the England squad, but we’ll wait and see who succeeds Southgate as the manager.

For now, Chelsea’s central midfielder needs to get his club future sorted quickly.

TEAMtalk reports this week that Tottenham are confident of signing Gallagher. Apparently, they think they can secure a bargain deal for around £30m, too. The report adds that Gallagher is currently asking for wages that are much higher than Chelsea are willing to pay.

The 24-year-old is one individual we fear could lose his spot in the England squad further down the line.
