One Chelsea defender is closing in on a move away from the club, with a transfer expected to be completed soon.

Right now, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is practically spoilt for choice in central defence. This summer, the Blues have signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, while Renato Veiga, another recent arrival, can also play as a centre-back.

Away from Adarabioyo and Veiga, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are just some of the other names at Stamford Bridge who can start in central defence.

Adarabioyo’s happy to be working under Maresca, who could see one of his centre-backs depart west London soon.

Malang Sarr closing in on RC Lens move

Malang Sarr is set to leave Chelsea in the coming days, though it is unlikely that the 25-year-old would have played under Maresca.

He was not part of the first-team squad last season, wasting an entire year at the club. But his Chelsea nightmare looks like it could be about to come to an end.

According to Foot Mercato, Sarr is expected to undergo a medical with RC Lens soon after reaching an agreement to join the French club.

It is good news for Chelsea, who will want to get a fringe player like the former Nice man off their books.

As per Spotrac, Sarr is on a £120,000-a-week contract at Stamford Bridge despite the Frenchman being an outcast there.

Malang Sarr’s time at Chelsea disappointing

Sarr joined Chelsea back in 2020 as a young and promising defender from France. At the time, it looked like a really clever bit of business by the Blues.

The former France U21 international cost them nothing, arriving on a free transfer, and was known for having quite a bit of versatility after playing at both centre-back and left-back.

In the end, though, his move to Stamford Bridge has not worked out and Chelsea have since struggled to offload him.

Chelsea offered Sarr to Besiktas last year, but a transfer never happened. Fast forward to now, and you would fully expect him to leave the Blues.
