Glen Johnson thinks Chelsea are relying on Cole Palmer so much right now to score and create their goals.
The success of Cole Palmer, 21, during his debut season at Chelsea has been one of the few big positives around Stamford Bridge this year.
He’s been called up for England’s senior squad for the upcoming internationals, which is fully deserved for one of the Premier League’s top performers this campaign. In fact, speaking via England’s X account today, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate said Palmer’s been “outstanding” this season.
Do Chelsea rely on their attacking playmaker too much, though?
According to Glen Johnson, the Blues only look like scoring when Palmer’s in possession.
There’s no doubt he’s been their chief contributor in front of goal, scoring 13 goals and making 11 assists in 33 game across all competitions.
When asked if Palmer should be starting for England at the Euros, Johnson responded to Squawka: “Yeah, possibly, like you say, he’s been world class. And at the moment, to be honest, Chelsea only look like scoring when he’s got the ball. So for him to sort of drag that team along almost single-handed, that’s not easy to do. If he could do that in arguably a better team, then he definitely can do it on a bigger stage. So if you think about the other players right now, [Jack] Grealish is injured, a few are not firing. So yeah, I think he would definitely be the first sub or in the front three. As long as he continues this form, he’s banging right on the door.”

Pivotal Cole Palmer
We agree that Palmer’s a massive player right now for Chelsea, the one supporters are often looking towards for inspiration.
Speaking via Premier League productions (10:12pm, 11 March), Michael Owen said he loves the way Palmer is playing his football right now.
It’s not completely a one-man show, though.
The likes of Nicolas Jackson, Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling are all still making some important contributions in the final third.
