A Chelsea youngster has just admitted that his own game is being influenced by the success of Cole Palmer.

There’s no doubt that Chelsea hit the jackpot last summer when they signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City.

In the space of just one year, the 22-year-old attacker has become the poster boy at Stamford Bridge. That’s largely down to him scoring 25 goals and making 15 assists in 45 Blues appearances last season.

A recent report by The Telegraph claimed that Chelsea believe Palmer could improve under Enzo Maresca. He previously worked under the new head coach when the duo were at Manchester City, so it’s going to be exciting to see how next season plays out.

Frankie Runham inspired by Cole Palmer

Chelsea prospect Frankie Runham, who plays in the academy, has just admitted that his game is now influenced by first-team star Palmer.

The 17-year-old attacker says that he’s trying to copy part of the England international’s game. We’d be confident guessing that plenty of youngsters from academies all over are similarly studying him for tips. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that because he was one of the most in-form players around last season.

Runham said via Chelsea’s official website: “I want to be the best goal scorer and show everyone what I am capable of and why I deserve to be at Chelsea. How I describe myself is a direct, fast-paced and intense attacker who loves making a difference and linking up throughout the pitch.

“A player in particular who I am influenced by is Cole Palmer. We take on similar positions and he holds so much power on the pitch. I hope to take aspects of his performance and adapt it to mine.”

Who is Frankie Runham?

Runham’s been on Chelsea’s books since the age of eight and worked his way up through the academy.

The versatile attacker, who spent most of last season as a winger for the Blues Under-18s team, will hope he can make a first-team debut one day. In fairness, he did represent the U21s for the first time earlier in 2024.

During the March international break of this year, Runham even trained with Chelsea’s first team, it was confirmed via the club’s official website.

His name is certainly one for Chelsea supporters to keep an ear out for in the years ahead.
