Petr Cech has been speaking about Chelsea’s famous Champions League final win against Bayern Munich back in 2012.

Petr Cech was part of the Chelsea team who managed to beat Bayern on penalties at the Allianz Arena to claim the club’s first Champions League trophy.

The former goalkeeper has now shared on High Performance what he told his wife during the Blues’ 2011/12 season, before they won Europe’s elite competition.

Chelsea also managed to win the FA Cup that year, but they had a really disappointing Premier League campaign.

They went on to finish in sixth and only managed to qualify for the next season’s Champions League after winning the competition.

Petr Cech shares what he told his wife before Chelsea’s Champions League triumph

With how poor Chelsea were playing that season, Cech said to his spouse it would be ironic if they actually went on to win the Champions League, which had eluded them up until that point.

Speaking on High Performance, the Czech Republic legend said: “I said to my wife in December, this season’s going horribly wrong but then everything in the Champions League is going like actually we manage.

“Every time we played in a Champions League game, we sort of get there. We get the result. Like we couldn’t get it in the league, so I said to her it’s going to be ironic if in the season where we can’t get anything going in the league, we actually finally manage to do it in the Champions League.”

With the direction they are heading in under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital‘s ownership, they will not qualify for the competition any time soon, let alone win it.

As mentioned earlier, Chelsea came sixth in the 2011/12 Premier League season and that was seen as a disappointing campaign. Fast forward to now, though, and supporters would probably kill for a similar finish!
