‘I was honored to get the call!’ Babyface reveals his delight at being asked to perform America The Beautiful at Super Bowl LVII pre-show
Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds has revealed he was ‘honored’ to be requested to perform America The Beautiful as part of the Super Bowl LVII pre-show in February.
The Grammy-winning singer, producer and musician, 63, told TMZ he had never dreamed of being able to take part in the big game day preparations on February 12.
‘I can safely say that I never saw this one coming, he contended. ‘I was honored that I got the call.’

The platinum selling artist shared a poster announcing his appearance on social media, writing, ‘Truly excited and honored to perform America the Beautiful at Super Bowl LVII and to be a part of this pregame lineup.’
The hitmaker who has been making music for more than four decades admitted he was nervous about performing for a global audience.

‘I’ll be completely rattled. As much as I’m going to try to be comfortable with it, I know I’m gonna be nervous, because you think about how many people you’re actually performing for and what that moment means.’
Country crooner Chris Stapleton will sing the national anthem, which is fine with the R&B legend, who said America The Beautiful is a better fit for him.
‘It’s really a beautiful song… that melody fits me a lot more.’

The Soul Train Award winner recalled working with the Diamonds artist in the past explaining, ‘I think I had her in the studio once for a charity record we did called Standup for Cancer, and she came in there and sang and blew me away.’
And he’s hopeful of a future collaboration. ‘That would be a dream to go back in there with her one day.’
