What ever happened to Guido Hatzis? How the anti-PC radio character vanished from the spotlight – as his creator reveals if he’ll ever make a comeback

Fans loved him for his outrageous politically incorrect humour.

But it looks like radio legend Guido Hatzis has hung up his black curly wig and tracksuit for good.

Guido, who rose to fame on Triple M’s notorious Crud radio show in the 1990s, was a character created by Tony Moclair, who now presents 3AW’s Australia Overnight.

Known for his outrageous claims, hairy chest, bad taste and awful dance moves, some critics saw Guido as a slur against certain ‘ethnic stereotypes’.

Despite this, the character acquired a huge following.

Moclair says that even though fans of his 3AW show often call in and ask to ‘speak to Guido’, he has no plans to revive the character known as the ‘Greek Adonis’.

‘In terms of appearances, I can’t remember the last one. I think I did it for a mate’s 60th [birthday],’ the 53-year-old radio veteran said on the Food Bytes podcast.

‘There’s been the occasional popping up here and there,’ he added. ‘But I’m very happy to leave the wig and the tracksuit in the bottom drawer.’

He joked that every time he looks at Guido’s wig, he is reminded of the woman he was dating when the character was at the peak of his fame.

She was often faced with embarrassing questions about their personal life, with fans often asking if Moclair ever wore the wig during sex.

Moclair devised the boastful Guido with his Crud co-presenter Julian Schiller.

The character still has a massive following, with Guido’s YouTube channel attracting thousands of subscribers.

One of Guido’s classic prank calls, in which the cocky ‘Adonis’ answers a wanted ad for a plumber, has attracted 1.2 million views since it was first posted nine years ago.
