Easter Sunday tragedy as man drowns while trying to rescue girl from dangerous surf at a popular beach

  • A man has drowned at a Port Stephens beach

A man has tragically drowned while trying to rescue a girl in the surf at a popular beach.

The man was pulled to shore unconscious near the Fingal Spit at Port Stephens, NSW, around 11am on Easter Sunday. 

He was unable to be revived. 

It’s understood the man had entered the surf to help save a girl facing difficulty in the water.

She was also brought back to shore and assessed by paramedics.
