West Ham will begin life without Declan Rice as they get their pre-season tour underway with a clash against Perth Glory this weekend.

Rice is set to seal his British record transfer to Arsenal, with the Hammers beginning new season preparations without their star man and captain.

David Moyes’ side are returning to action after becoming European champions last season, experiencing a historic night in Prague.

But just over a month after their success, holidays have been enjoyed and now attention turns back to the pitch as the squad travel to Australia.

They will first face A-League outfit Perth before coming up against fellow Premier League side Tottenham next week.

Pre-season is an opportunity to assess squads ahead of the new campaign and Moyes will likely give minutes to youth prospects.

Freddie Potts and Divin Mubamba are two youngsters that could break through and impress the West Ham boss in Australia.

Ben Johnson is a player who will miss out, having only just returned from international duty with the England who won the Euro U21 Championship on Saturday.

West Ham vs Perth Glory: What has been said?

Jarrod Bowen has been discussing pre-season preparations ahead of the Hammers’ trip to Australia.

Bowen said: “There’s no leeway! It’s all about getting fit for the new season now.

“It was a long season, with it going into June, so I think the manager knew it was important for us to have a good rest, recuperate and switch off from football for a bit.

“But the hard work has started again, and pre-season is never easy. You know what to expect and you do your work in the off-season, even when you’re having a rest, cause you need to keep yourself ticking over.”
