Maggie Beer reveals exciting career announcement after leaving The Great Australian Bake Off

Maggie Beer is set to make a special guest appearance on The Great Australian Bake Off, after leaving the show last year.

The celebrity chef, 78, revealed on Sunday she will return as a guest judge to share her expert culinary knowledge with the new contestants.

‘Returning to the Bake Off set was a delight. The new team extended a warm welcome. It was exciting to see the talented contestants,’ she said in a statement.

‘The Bake Off is home to such positive energy and warmth, something that I am proud of having contributed to for the last five seasons.’ 

New judge Darren Purchese added it was an honour to have Maggie return to the set.

‘Being a Bake Off judge is a dream come true, and sharing this experience with Maggie is indeed special,’ he said.

Earlier this month, Maggie paid tribute to MasterChef judge Jock Zonfrillo who died on May 1. 

Beer said she was ‘terribly shocked’ to hear of the 46-year-old’s passing, after she tragically lost her daughter at the same age. 

Sharing a photo of Zonfrillo in his chef uniform to Instagram, Beer captioned it with some heartfelt words.

‘So terribly shocked and so very sad at Jock’s passing,’ she began. 

‘A truly unique creative chef with a big heart and big ideas will be so missed by many. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Maggie.’ 

Tragically, Maggie’s daughter Saskia also unexpectedly died in her sleep at the age of 46 in February 2020. 

The Great Australian Bake Off will premiere Tuesday, June 13 on Foxtel
