Michael Norell

Michael Norell, born on October 4, 1937, in Wallace, Idaho, was an American scriptwriter, actor, and executive producer. He was best known for his role as Captain Henry “Hank” Stanley on the TV show Emergency!, which aired from 1972 to 1978.

Norell was raised by his parents, Wilma Helen Snook and James Alden Norell. Due to his father’s service in the Army, the family relocated several times, including a period in Tokyo, Japan during the war.

Norell attended Falls Church High School in Virginia, where he actively participated in various school performances. He then went to Washington and Lee University to study media.

His wife, Cynthia Ann Cherbak, whom he had been married to for 32 years, will continue on without him. He is also survived by his daughter, Chelsea Cherbak Norell, of Eagle Rock, California, and his son, James Cherbak Norell, of West Los Angeles, California.

The Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements by the family. Michael’s family has that a private memorial service be performed in his honour.

Michael Norell Career

Before moving to New York City to pursue acting full-time, Norell worked as a journalist for the Richmond Times-Dispatch after leaving the Army. He was cast in several film and television roles, including guest spots on Mission: Impossible, The Virginian, and The Andy Griffith Show.

Norell wasn’t a household name until he landed the role of Captain Hank Stanley on Emergency! in 1972. Norell, a member of the original cast of Emergency!, contributed significantly to the show’s popularity through his depiction of Captain Stanley by infusing the role with humour, heart, and compassion.

Throughout the show’s six seasons, Norell earned a reputation as a strong leader who never lost his cool or his dedication to the team. Even though he left the program in 1978, his reputation as one of television’s most beloved characters lives on.
