Elderly woman, 73, is allegedly stabbed from behind while walking home alone after visiting family

An elderly woman has been rushed to hospital after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times on her walk home.
Police said the 73-year-old had left a family member’s house and was walking home on Mundy St in Geelong, south-west of Melbourne, about 7pm on Tuesday.
When the woman reached the intersection of Bellarine St, a man allegedly came up behind her and stabbed her several times before leaving.

The woman managed to seek assistance from a nearby home and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, where she remained on Wednesday morning.
In the wake of the alleged attack, police arrested a man in South Geelong on Tuesday.
A 32-year-old remains in custody and is assisting police with their inquiries.
Police told 3AW investigators believed the man was not connected to the family member’s household.
