The 32-year-old has spent seven highly successful years at the Etihad Stadium, and was one of the first signings the club made following the appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager in 2016.

The central midfielder has played over 300 times for the club, scoring 60 goals and providing 40 assists, winning five Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and two Community Shields, and most recently, the Champions League during his time in Manchester.

Last week’s Champions League final victory over Inter Milan was the final game under Gundogan’s current contract, in which he ended up captaining his side to the club’s first ever Champions League title and a historic treble.

Gundogan has become known for scoring crucial goals in important fixtures for the club in recent years, scoring both goals in their 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester United this season.

Perhaps more memorably, he scored twice off the bench in the final match of last season with just 15 minutes to play, to wrestle the title race back into their hands and clinch the league title in the dying minutes of the season.

Barcelona have been named as the team most likely to sign the German international, should he opt to end his time at Manchester City.

Managed by Xavi, one of the greatest central midfielders in recent generations, Gundogan would join the side who have just won the La Liga title for the first time in four years despite huge financial restrictions on the club.

The Catalan side are in the market for an experienced central midfielder following the announcement of Sergio Busquets’ departure from Camp Nou.

The World Cup winner leaving mines the club’s oldest central midfielder is the 26-year-old Frank Kessie, who is also being rumoured of a move away this summer, and Gundogan could be the perfect replacement.

Ilkay Gundogan next club odds

  • Barcelona – 1/3
  • Arsenal – 12/1
  • PSG – 16/1
  • Bayern Munich – 25/1
  • Juventus – 33/1
  • Real Madrid – 33/1

Arsenal had also been rumoured to be interested in acquiring the central midfielder from Man City.

The Gunners signed two of City’s players last season in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko and both played huge roles as Mikel Arteta’s side got close to winning their first league title since 2004.

Arsenal led the Premier League table for a large majority of the season, but were pipped in the dying games by an outstanding Manchester City side.

The Gunners will need to add to the strength and depth of their squad this summer as they prepare for the return of Champions League football to the Emirates Stadium for the first time since 2017, and Gundogan would add experience and ability in abundance.

PSG and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the midfielder, the latter of which could bring the German back to his native Bundesliga, but both are slightly further back in the race with odds of 16/1 and 25/1 respectively.

The French side’s odds have been halved over the last couple days after mooted rumours linking the midfielder to the French capital.

Juventus and Real Madrid have all put their hat in the ring too but are long shots at 33/1 each.
