Mohamed Salah is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to fire Liverpool back into the Premier League title reckoning next season.

The Egyptian forward may only be three-and-a-half weeks into his summer break but he is leading from the front as he prepares for pre-season training with the Reds.

Salah took to social media on Thursday with an image of him hard at work in a post that is sure to please Liverpool fans.

The 31-year-old can be seen showing off some impressive core strength in the gym by holding up his body weight with one arm on a balance trainer and a dumbbell in the opposite hand all whilst performing a plank.

It is an exercise often used with athletes to improve balance and flexibility and helps burn calories.

Salah finished the season as Liverpool’s top scorer for the sixth-consecutive season but was unable to prevent Jurgen Klopp’s side from missing out on the top four.

It means Liverpool will play Europa League football next season – a feat he hopes will be a one-off.

Salah took aim at himself and teammates following their failure to claim a top four place claiming they let the fans down after an underwhelming season.

Klopp’s side finished in fifth position – four points behind Newcastle – and were dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid at the Round-of-16 stage.

Salah vented his frustration in a Twitter post writing: “I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this.

“We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.

“I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”

But with last season’s heartache firmly behind them and the dawn of a new season on the horizon, Liverpool fans can rest assured the Egyptian King will be in optimum shape ahead of August’s big kick-off.
