Front-of-shirt sponsorship deals are one of the best ways for Premier League football clubs to make money.
Therefore, Chelsea’s current situation is far from ideal, given they currently have no sponsor.
The lack of a sponsor is likely to prove problematic for the Blues if it carries on much longer.
Why don’t Chelsea have a sponsor?
The Blues’ previous deal with mobile telecommunications company Three saw them earn £40million a year.
But Todd Boehly and co decided to scrap it to search for a more lucrative sponsor.
The Blues had hoped to seal a deal with streaming service Paramount+ but saw the Premier League block the proposal.
The top flight thought Chelsea actively wearing one of NBC’s competitors would cause problems because the American company are the official Premier League rights holder in the USA.
Chelsea then opened talks with gambling firm Stake, but with those types of deals being banned from 2026, the London giants pulled out after negative fan reaction.
The Blues have since rejected an offer from Bayern Munich’s stadium sponsor Allianz.
But with the Premier League season fast approaching, Chelsea are now scrambling around for a sponsor.
As a result, the club have lowered their demands to £25m per year and are willing to include the Women’s team in the package.
So, now we wait to see what happens.
