Natalie Lloyd (age 21, 2002 – May 23, 2024) was a missionary who worked at Missions in Haiti Inc., an Oklahoma-based organization, with her husband David Lloyd. Natalie began her work with the organization in August 2022 and frequently shared photos of Haitian children on her social media.
Natalie helped care for children at the House of Compassion and assisted in the ACE school. David worked on various projects around the compound. He built a laundry room at the House of Compassion, allowing the women to wash clothes indoors. David also remodeled and repaired the bathroom facilities in the girls’ dormitory.
David maintained the vehicles, diesel-powered generators, and facilities. He also ministered in the church and schools.
Sadly, Natalie, her husband David, and Mission director Jude Montis were killed by a gang in Haiti. “David and Natalie Lloyd were attacked by gangs this evening and were both killed,” Natalie Lloyd’s father, Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker, said in a Facebook post. “They went to Heaven together.”
Natalie Lloyd’s father Ben Baker Posted a heartfelt message
After the tragic passing of Natalie Lloyd and her husband David Lloyd, Natalie’s father, Ben Baker, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt message. He posted their picture and expressed his deep sorrow, saying
“Words seem empty right now…Our hearts are broken. This is the hardest thing we have ever done. We’re grieving, but we want Davy and Natalie’s story to be told because it deserves to be told. They were the perfect example of a life of putting others before self.”
He further said “A life of loving people so deeply that you would give your life for them even if some of them were full of hate. This level of selflessness is so rare to see especially in young people their age. They loved Haiti, it was their heart.”
“The first time Natalie visited she came back and said, “I fell in Love with Haiti!” That love devotion and determination defined them and their actions. Their sacrificial lives will live on for generations. Pray for us we need strength and pray for the Lloyd family as well.”
Natalie and David Lloyd were married in 2022
According to Natalie Lloyd’s Facebook account, they had known each other for a long time, with Natalie beginning to post pictures with David on February 6, 2020.
They dated for a considerable period before getting married on June 18, 2022. Following their marriage, Natalie commenced her work with the missionary organization in August 2022. She regularly shared photos of Haitian children on her social media page.
Tragically, gang members in Port Au Prince attacked the young couple while they were returning home from a church service.
The assailants not only stole all their belongings but also set their homes on fire. On Friday afternoon, Ben Baker posted on Facebook that the bodies of Davy and Natalie Lloyd had been safely transported to the U.S. Embassy.
Natalie Studied at the Ozark Bible Institute
Natalie Lloyd was born in 2002 to Naomi Baker and Ben Baker in Neosho City, Missouri. She attended Ozark Bible Institute for her education.
Her father, Ben Baker, is a Missouri State Representative affiliated with the Republican Party. He represents Newton County (District 160) in the Missouri House of Representatives. Ben Baker was first elected to this position in November 2018.
Aside from his legislative role, Baker is involved in various other activities. He serves as a lay minister and has been a missionary. Previously, he worked as a professor and dean of students at Ozark Bible Institute in Neosho.
Additionally, Ben owns a small construction business specializing in artisan trim work. He has also served on the Neosho City Council and held the position of mayor of Neosho.
