Alarming attack on delivery driver caught on camera

The footage, recorded by a resident and shared exclusively with 2GB’s Ben Fordham, shows a man in a hi-visibility vest retreating from a group of young people on a street in Glebe.

Amid shouting and screaming, they throw glass bottles at him, one shattering right at his feet.

A man then rides in on a bike, along with several other newcomers, before jumping off and grappling with the delivery driver.

The driver flees, with his attackers in pursuit.

Resident “Tim” told Fordham he heard the youths later bragging the man had been “stomped”.

Tim, who has lived in the area for five years, said the violence had escalated recently.

“They’d been sitting there most of the night, drinking vodka. I found the remnants of a Smirnoff vodka bottle the next day,” he told host Ben Fordham.

“You’ve got a delivery driver just doing his job, they’ve set upon him.”

He said it appeared the original group had called in bike-riding reinforcements.

“This guy, when you see the footage, he just comes charging in,” Tim said.

Tim said the 7/11 in the area, frequented by most of the residents, had been a repeat target of local offenders, with staff assaulted, goods stolen, and doors kicked in.

“I wouldn’t go out at night unless I absolutely had to.”

He said he had contacted both the office of the Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, and Balmain MP Kobi Lee Shetty, but hadn’t seen a response from either.

He confirmed he had also contacted NSW Police to report multiple incidents.

Police told 9news.com.au they had been called to Glebe Point Road in Glebe on 1am Monday, April 15, after reports a delivery driver had been assaulted by a group of people.

The group left the scene before police arrived.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested last Wednesday and charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and affray.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in court on May 29.
