A family has been left shaken after an unknown man broke into their home in Melbourne’s south-east earlier this week.

Police believe the man forced entry into the home on Hakea Street in Doveton on Monday about 4am.

The man stole a number of items including cash, jewellery, and car keys.

Investigators said there were seven people home at the time, including three children.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Police believe the offender fled the scene in the victim’s white Holden Maloo utility with registration “DOMNNT”, worth around $100,000.

The man was captured on CCTV shortly after stealing petrol in Officer about 5.28am.

Detectives said the man is perceived to be African in appearance and wearing all-black clothing.
