Enzo, a construction worker from Dingley, was cycling his usual route in Cheltenham, when he was hit by a car near the intersection of Brownfield Street about 5.50am on April 30.
“I was (riding) and saw that there was a $20 million jackpot at the chemist and I started spending that in my head and then next minute, I was in the ambulance. That was it,” he told 9News.
The 53-year-old had lights on and was wearing reflective safety gear when he was hit.
He was rushed to the trauma ward at the Alfred Hospital, where he underwent spinal surgery.
“I’ve got a broken bone in my hand, broken collarbone, broken ribs, they tell me broken ribs are from high impact,” he said.
Police said the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render assistance.
“(My bike) is in a million pieces,” Enzo said.
“I’m horrified. Cars are getting too close and one that doesn’t stop, I don’t understand.
“I hope (they) accept responsibility.”
Enzo said he was forever grateful for the people who did stop to help him.
“I thank them and if I get their names, I will personally thank them,” he said.
Police believe the vehicle involved was a Nissan Navara ute and may have damage to the left front fog light from the impact with the bicycle.
