Five people have been arrested and a series of weapons, including a spear and machete, were seized after an alleged violent brawl in Alice Springs.

Police received several reports that two groups, believed to be family known to each other, were armed and fighting on Bath Street about 1.15pm today.

Two females, aged 17 and 19, and three males, aged 21, 26 and 41, were arrested at the scene while others were dispersed.

No serious injuries were reported.

Police found and seized a number of weapons including nulla-nullas, spears, a baseball bat and a machete.

The five arrested are expected to be charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place and armed with offensive weapon.

“This sort of violent criminal conduct has no place in our community. We will continue to take action against people who engage in this type of reprehensible behaviour,” acting southern commander Drew Slape said.

Police Commissioner Michael Murphy used his controversial new powers on Monday to prevent residents of all ages from going into the city centre between 10pm and 6am without good reason until Thursday.

The decision followed a series of alleged violent offending, including the assault of four officers.

Murphy said he will consider requesting an extension of the curfew if required.
