Four people have been arrested after allegedly attempting to steal copper from a business in Melbourne's inner suburbs overnight.

Police were called to the warehouse on Todd Road in Port Melbourne about 2.30am.

Air Wing and Dog Squad assisted officers on the scene after catching the four people on the roof.

A 50-year-old man, 37-year-old man, 45-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were arrested.

They are assisting police with their enquiries.
