Emergency services found the home on King Street in Fairfield West well alight just after 2.10am on March 23.

The home was completely gutted and the two occupants of the home, a 28-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, suffered second and third-degree burns to their hands and lower bodies.

It’s believed they sustained the wounds while fleeing the home as it burned.

They were taken to hospital in a critical condition, but have since been released.

Police said previously they believed the fire was lit deliberately in a case of mistaken identity.

Upon further investigations, detectives believe the alleged arson is linked to a separate allegedly deliberately lit fire at a barber shop on The Horsley Drive in Wetherill Park, on March 20.

“Police will allege in court the fires were deliberately lit as a retaliation to a shooting incident in Fairfield West on Sunday 17 March 2024,” NSW Police said.

Two men were arrested yesterday during a search warrant at a Chester Hill home.

A 25-year-old man was charged with several offences, including one count of destroying/damaging property with intent to endanger life, and one count of destroying/damaging property in company using fire.

He was refused bail in Bankstown Court yesterday.
