Australian Federal Police have intercepted a multi-million-dollar major shipment of MDMA and ketamine smuggled into the country inside Evian water bottles.
AFP officers raided a storage facility in Box Hill, in Sydney’s northwest, on Friday and discovered 300kg of MDMA and 70kg of ketamine in a consignment of metal fibre.
Some of the boxes were filled with sand and plastic water bottles.
Tests of the brown substances inside the bottles came back positive for MDMA and ketamine, police said.
Further testing will determine the exact weight and purity of the drugs.
“We will be relentless in pursuing the syndicate responsible for this importation,” Detective Superintendent Kristie Cressy said.
“The organised crime syndicates behind these large-scale importations don’t care about the harm they’re causing.
“They only care about the profits they can make.”
Cressy urged anyone who could help with the investigation to come forward.
The investigation is continuing.
