A man has been charged after he allegedly chased people with a knife and slashed one man across the neck at a park in Sydney’s west yesterday.
Police were called to Heber Park in Hebersham at 5.45pm yesterday following reports a man was chasing people with a knife.
The man had allegedly chased several people and cut a man’s neck before bystanders “disarmed and restrained” him until police arrived.
Mount Druitt Police Area Command Detective Chief Inspector Paul Tickner said the 24-year-old was known to police.
“Those people were down there there was a soccer match in progress, kids were playing around the park, and all of a sudden this man has pulled out.. a box cutter-type knife,” Tickner said.
“This male is well known to us, we’ve had a number of interactions, there’s a number of warnings on our system in regards to him and possession of knives.”
The alleged stabbing victim, believed to be in his 20s, was treated for injuries to his neck and head before being taken to Napean Hospital in a stable condition.
He has since been released from hospital.
A 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to Napean Hospital for assessment.
He has since been released and charged with two counts of stalking or intimidating intending fear/physical harm, common assault and wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear in Mount Druitt Local Court today.
