A man is being questioned by police after an alleged hit and run left a woman dead north of the Sunshine Coast.

Police allege a silver Ford Falcon was driving on Boundary Road in the Hervey Bay suburb of Urangan about 12am today when it hit a pedestrian walking.

First responders arrived to find a woman aged in her 40s dead.

A 41-year-old man is currently being questioned by police.

Boundary Road, between Stringbark Street and Booral Road are currently closed while police investigations are ongoing.
