A man’s decomposing body has been found on the side of a highway in the Northern Territory – and police believe it was there for five days.

Police received a report about the body on the side of the Stuart Highway, about 25 kilometres north of Devils Marbles, at 2pm on March 19.

Officers from Tennant Creek recovered the body.

Detectives believe he may have died as a result of falling from a vehicle.

“The man is yet to be formally identified but believed to be a man aged in his 30s, reported missing and last seen by his family on Thursday night,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said.

“The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, likely having been situated near the road for five days,” Lindner said.

Investigations are ongoing.
