Moment police struggled to restrain vicious dog after it bit a child on the street in London

A video captures the moment police struggle to restrain a vicious dog after it bites a child in front of onlookers in the latest canine attack.

A 13-year-old boy was bitten by a dog at a bus stop around 4.55pm on Thursday on Burdett Road, Tower Hamlets, east London.

The incident was caught on video by stunned onlookers as police officers cautiously approached the brown dog with an animal control pole (Ketch-All poles).

The video then pans to the injured child who is on the ground at the bus stop as he is being attended to by officers. The man filming the video is heard saying: ‘It bit the poor kid, look.’

Standing completely still, the video shows the moment that the dog is captured by the police as the control pole loops around its neck.

Once it is caught, the dog attempts to fight back and resists with great force against the police officer.

Another officer stands by at the ready with a fire extinguisher in hand.

The crowds are eventually directed further away from the incident as the ambulance arrives to see to the boy.

The young boy was reported to have been taken to hospital for his treatment, and thankfully his injuries are not life-threatening.

Whilst enquiries to trace the dog’s owners are currently ongoing, the animal has been recovered by the police.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: ‘Police were called by the London Ambulance at about 15:55hrs on Thursday, February 2, to reports of a child bitten by a dog at a bus stop on Burdett Road, E3.

‘Officers attended. The 13-year-old boy has been taken to hospital for treatment; his injuries are not life-threatening.

‘Enquiries to trace the owner are ongoing. The dog has been recovered by police.’

London Ambulance Service have been contacted for a comment.

This incident is the latest in a stream of tragic dog attacks in recent weeks.

Four-year-old Alice Stones was mauled to death by a dog in a savage back garden attack in her home in Milton Keynes earlier this week.

Police were called to the home in Broadlands in the city’s Netherfield area by the ambulance service on Tuesday, after the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The animal was humanely put down by police on Tuesday evening.

However, investigations continue into the death of Natasha Johnston, 28, who died after a frenzied attack by canines at the Gravelly Hill beauty spot in Caterham, Surrey, on January 12.

Eight dogs were seized at the scene although police confirmed last week that there would be no individual prosecutions.

Forensic tests are underway to identify which of the dogs were involved in the attack. Ms Johnston’s inquest is set to resume on June 29.

Along with attempting to find the owner from yesterday’s incident, police are searching for the owner of a dog who attacked an elderly lady last week, breaking her arm and removing a large amount of tendons and muscle.

A horrific video from the scene captured the dog attacking the elderly woman while she lays on the floor, having been knocked to the ground.

Two women can be seen kicking the dog in an attempt to get it away from the victim, in an attack which lasted around five minutes.

The 74-year-old required surgery shortly after arriving in hospital and is now in a stable condition, but will need more treatment before she can return home.
