Two babies born inside a home have died, one at the house and another later in hospital.

The infants, understood to be twins, were found after 2am on Sunday, February 11 at a home in Mullumbimby, northern NSW, after police were called over a concern for welfare.

One of the babies died at the scene while the other was taken to Tweed Heads hospital, where it later died, reports 7News.

The mother was also transported to hospital but there is no update on her condition at present. 

A crime scene was established at the home.

Police have launched an investigation into the deaths and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
