Two of the victims of a horror crash that claimed the lives of three people and left a fourth fighting for life have been identified as international visitors.

David Lim and Sophie Florence, both 27, were travelling in a black Holden when they collided head on with a silver Mazda on the New England Highway near Armidale, in north-east NSW, about 6.50pm on Saturday.

Mr Lim and Ms Florence and the 41-year-old male Mazda driver died at the scene.

The Mazda’s front passenger – the driver’s 34-year-old wife -and the couple’s two-year-old child were rushed to Armidale Hospital.

The woman is fighting for life in a critical condition while the toddler suffered minor injuries.

Devastated friends have flocked online to pay tribute to Mr Lim and Ms Florence, who are Indonesian nationals.

Daily Mail Australia understands the pair were working at a tomato farm in Guyra, 39km north of Armidale.

‘David and Sophie rest in peace,’ friend Telesiah Aitta wrote online. ‘I miss you both.’

Mat Tomasi said: ‘Rest In Love David and Sophie. You will forever be missed.’

According to social media, Ms Florence graduated from Airlangga University, in Surabaya, with a degree in Public Administration in 2018 before later migrating to Australia.

Mr Lim graduated the same year from Surbaya’s Petra Christian University with a Bachelor of Interior Design and Furniture.

He went on to work in the industry with construction and real estate companies including IJM Land Berham and Mahoni Group before later moving to Adelaide.

At the time of their death, Mr Lim and Ms Florence were employed to work in one of the glasshouses at the Costa Tomato farms.

At a press conference on Sunday, Traffic and Highway Patrol South West Sector Commander Acting Superintendent Gregory Donaldson said one of the cars somehow crossed into the opposite side of the road.

‘It’s a tragic loss of three lives on our roads and there are two people still fighting for their lives in hospital,’ he said.

He said the circumstances surrounding the incident – including which car was at fault – was still being investigated.

Acting Superintendent Donaldson said the tragedy was a reminder for motorists to take care on roads.

‘The effects of these traumatic incidents aren’t just contained within the cars that crashed, it’s a whole community,’ he said.

‘I don’t know what caused that crash yet, but over the last 36 years every crash that I’ve been to somebody’s done something wrong … there’s no such thing as an accident, somebody’s done something wrong.’

A police investigation is ongoing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information or dash cam footage about this incident is being urged to contact New England Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
