President Obama’s White House communications director slammed the special counsel report on Biden’s handling of classified documents calling it a ‘partisan hit job,’ and warned it poses a serious problem for the president.
The report by Special Counsel Robert Hur released Thursday said prosecutors would not charge President Biden for his handling of classified documents since leaving office, but it painted a picture of an 81-year-old in mental decline, describing Biden as a ‘well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.’
In a Substack post on Friday, Dan Pfeiffer wrote Special Counsel Robert Hur ‘swerved out of his lane to drive a negative narrative about Biden.’
‘It’s hard to read the report and not think that, without the ability to charge Biden with a crime, Hur wanted to damage him politically,’ Pfeiffer, who served as communications director and a senior adviser in the Obama administration, wrote.
‘I don’t want to sugarcoat it. Biden’s age is his biggest impediment to re-election and this description could be very damaging,’ Pfeiffer said
Pfeiffer goes on to state the report ‘poses some real political peril for Biden,’ and he fears that the description of Biden will break through to the public at large.

But amid the frenzy of coverage and growing concerns over the president’s ability to lead, Pfeiffer is pushing back, noting the description laid out in Hur’s report does not match those by many who interact with the president from lawmakers to CEOs.
Pfeiffer wrote that in order to win in November, President Biden will now have to prove Hur wrong, and the only way to do that is through more interviews and press conferences, arguing misstatements matter less the more you speak.

Biden began his forceful pushback on the report of his mental decline with a fiery press conference at the White House on Thursday night where he responded ‘I know what the hell I am doing!’
He took particular issue with the report’s claim he could not remember when his son Beau had died, saying ‘I don’t need anyone, I don’t need anyone, to remind me of when he passed away.’
Despite his forceful rebuked of special counsel, the president’s defiant appearance on Thursday was not without a gaffe.
While responding to a question about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Biden referred to the leader of Egypt as the president of Mexico.
‘I think as you know initially, the president of Mexico, El-Sisi, did not want to open up the gate to humanitarian material to get in. I talked to him. I convinced him to open the gate,’ Biden said.
