Given the price of beer these days, many drinkers might argue it is a crime to chuck it away in any circumstances.
But that has not stopped football fans from revelling in the World Cup craze for throwing beer when their team scores.
Now, however, there may be a further penalty to pay – a spell behind bars.
Legal experts warned England and Wales fans that chucking pints around could land them behind bars if the container or liquid hit another person.

England and Wales fans have been warned about dangers of chucking pints around when their team scores
Specialist licensing solicitors Poppleston Allen issued a warning before what has been dubbed a ‘do or die’ clash to decide which home nation progresses to the knock-out stages in Qatar.
The firm said: ‘Clearly if an object such as a glass or even a polycarbonate is thrown deliberately, that would be an assault or attempted assault… If it is part of generally aggressive group behaviour it could be a public order offence.’
Common assault has a maximum sentence of six months in jail. Disorderly behaviour can lead to custody or a fine.
