But that has not stopped football fans from revelling in the World Cup craze for throwing beer when their team scores.
Now, however, there may be a further penalty to pay – a spell behind bars.

Specialist licensing solicitors Poppleston Allen issued a warning before what has been dubbed a ‘do or die’ clash to decide which home nation progresses to the knock-out stages in Qatar.
The firm said: ‘Clearly if an object such as a glass or even a polycarbonate is thrown deliberately, that would be an assault or attempted assault… If it is part of generally aggressive group behaviour it could be a public order offence.’
Common assault has a maximum sentence of six months in jail. Disorderly behaviour can lead to custody or a fine.
